I had no option but to approach the Hon’ble Supreme Court because in my view the moment doubts arise regarding the fairness of any public examination, then there is a need for examining the same in a fair, independent and transparent manner.
For thousands of JPSC aspirants, it is not just about challenging the results of one examination. It is about several years of hard work, money spent, family hopes and their dreams for the betterment of life through public service.
It is therefore not a matter of prejudging the allegations and finding people guilty. It is a matter of having a probe and establishing the facts of the case.
What Is the JPSC 2025 Controversy?
The 14th JPSC Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination was held on April 19, 2026, for the recruitment advertised as Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Examination-2025. Recruitment has been posted by the official website of the JPSC under Advertisement No. 01/2026.
The examination has since come into controversy after the result of the preliminary examination was declared.
Several issues have been pointed out by candidates and students regarding the results, including the lack of category-wise cut off details, doubts about the merit list, and alleged discrepancies regarding the OMR answer sheets.
The controversy further escalated when an alleged carbon copy of the OMR answer sheet came out through social media platforms. As per allegations mentioned in the petition, this answer sheet allegedly revealed that a qualifying candidate had attempted only 48 questions in Paper-I.
It must be borne in mind that while allegations and facts are two very different things. Material circulating through social media needs to be independently verified for its validity and full context. This is exactly why an impartial inquiry is essential.
This brings us to the unclear point whether the viral image should by itself be considered concrete proof of something. In fact, the question should be whether the independent examination records can prove their case.
Why Did I Approach the Supreme Court?
The choice to go to the Supreme Court was made amidst lasting fears expressed by aspirants of JPSC and the general public.
Protests have broken out in Ranchi as students raise their voices for greater transparency and accountability in the process of recruitment. In recent times, reports have also highlighted the ongoing controversy around the 14th examination of JPSC and the investigation into the alleged misconduct.
In my opinion, an examination being conducted for appointments to the public service must command trust among the general public.
A civil services examination is not like any other competitive examination. The candidates take years to prepare for it. Many quit their jobs, miss other career opportunities and even shift to coaching centers in order to prepare for the same.
In case there is any allegation about such an examination, it is not right to ask the students to forget about it.
The answer lies in the evidence.
What Does the JPSC 2025 Supreme Court PIL Seek?
Various reliefs sought in this public interest litigation in relation to the said irregularities in JPSC Prelims 2025 include:
1. Cancellation of the Preliminary Examination
One of the key reliefs sought in the petition is the cancellation of the preliminary examination held on 19th April 2026 and subsequent conduct of the preliminary examination in a different manner under the guidance of Hon’ble Supreme Court.

An exam for a public service is based on a single principle: equal opportunity.

The application for judicial interference is being made because the matter relating to the credibility of a major public examination needs to be sorted out by a fair process of inquiry.
The call is not for a predetermined conclusion.
The call is for the truth to be established.
A Fair Examination Is a Right of Every Aspirant
To a civil service aspirant, an examination means much more than just two papers in one day.
It could mean years of getting up early and sleeping late.
It could mean money borrowed from a family for coaching.
It could mean giving up jobs to study full-time.
It could mean parents eagerly waiting for their wards to pass.
It could mean a person’s aspiration to join public service and serve society.
That is why any charges regarding exam fairness should not be taken lightly.
On the other hand, no charge can turn out to be a conclusion without proof.
The right way is an independent inquiry into the original papers to determine what really happened.

The law shall dictate subsequent measures that should be taken.

It’s about making sure that any allegations related to JPSC 2025 get a fair hearing, and that no deserving candidate is deprived of his/her due because the matter has not been sorted out regarding the exam.
Ultimately, for me, this whole matter revolves around three things:
Diligence must be rewarded.
Open recruitment must be practiced.
Everyone who aspires must be given a fair chance.
That’s what the students preparing for JPSC 2025 deserve.
